Hiking and establishment of new site

The day started with some hiking. Just behind the station is a plateau that is reachable in a one hour normal speed walk. Some parts are a bit steep and some a bit wet, but it is worth it because of the nice view.
I came down to the station again a bit after 10 in the morning, and meat Riikka and Christian at the tower site close by the station. They were installing our new plots and I helped out. It is a totally perfect site with four different vegetation types 6 replicates, all close by an eddy flux tower that will be installed soon. It will allow us to compare the BVOC emission close to the ground, with the BVOCs that is measured a few meters up. It will also allow me to compare the BVOCs from different vegetation types as I will do in Zackenberg this year.

In the afternoon I treated some background data in excel and went for a walk together with Katrine to the site. Nice day. Not as good weather as yesterday and a bit chilly.

Is this the reason this Big island is called Greenland?

Here you can see the Arctic station. Both the house where we are eating and sleeping and the laboratory
